Access, Equity, & Empowerment FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH

Youth Disadvantage Snapshot

  • 12.8% of UK youth aged 16–24 are NEET
  • 1.7 million youth are SEND & 2x as likely to be NEET
  • 36% of secondary pupils are FSM eligible and have reduced progression to higher education and enrichment opportunities
  • Disadvantaged pupils are persistently upto 22.7 months behind their peers
  • They face significant barriers to STEM and EBAC progression, including a lack of work experience, guidance, and social capital.  
  • 31% report mental health conditions and are 5x more likely to be out of work. 
  • Disabled youth face higher unemployment and economic inactivity rates, especially those with mental health conditions or learning disabilities
  • An estimated 800,000+ young carers in the UK, many of whom are hidden from official data and are more likely to have mental health challenges, face barriers to attendance, attainment, and progression

SPORTAINMENT Disadvantaged

  • 90% of our students have been referred
  • 85% NEETS have gone into long-term employment/ education
  • 90% report improved mental health
  • 60%  are at-risk or come from vulnerable backgrounds
  • 95% of students create achievable career pathways
  • 80% have passed their GCSE Maths and English
  • Disadvantaged youth have been given a seat at tables in industries that have historically shut them out, unlocked roles without degree barriers, championed flexible working, and co-created pathways built on talent, not privilege 
  • Partnered with some of the UK’s highest FSM/SEN schools, delivering tailored support to students facing the greatest barriers to progression 
  • Provided targeted financial assistance to disadvantaged youth to access opportunities
